Garrett Keisling
Garrett began working with glass soon after graduating from high school in central Pennsylvania. During an introductory furnace glassblowing course in college, he discovered flameworked glass bead making using a blowtorch from a fellow student. Captivated by the flame and the intimate process of using a gas-fueled torch to add color and to shape the glass, he was soon creating small glass beads and vessels in a makeshift studio within his homes garage to refine his skills and make extra money while attending college.
Garrett spent the next several years studying among the rich glass tradition in southern New Jersey at Salem Community and graduated with a degree in Scientific Glassblowing. Soon after he accepted a job with a company in northern California and entered the technical glass industry making hand-blown laboratory equipment for research and development at chemical and medical companies worldwide. While expanding his skills on the job and creating small artworks in his free time, Garrett’s desire to work with glass freely and artistically grew stronger, leaving an intense void that creating production-style glass could not fill. Several years later he started Keisling Glasswürks using the success of his colorful, hand-blown glass ornaments as a springboard to open his own studio and broaden his catalog of work.
