There are several subspecies of the Mantella frog, which can only be found on the island of Madagascar.
These colorful little frogs, like all amphibians, soak up water through their skin, so the slightest problem or mild pollutant in their water sources can be enough to wipe out an entire species. Females lay their eggs on damp leaf areas in the forest, once hatched into tadpoles, rains wash them down into larger pools and streams where they will grow and mature.
Over collection for the pet trade, deforestation, and disease threaten many amphibians across the globe today.
