Only about 1” long, these gorgeous little amphibians are strawberry red with blue or black legs.
The Strawberry Dart Frog calls Central American and Puerto Rico lowland forests its home. Males and females work together to take care of the eggs, once hatched, the females will carry each tadpole on her back to a safe pool of water, usually the base of a bromeliad plant, where each baby tadpole is deposited in its own pool of water. She checks back daily, feeding each tadpole unfertilized eggs while it grows and develops into a tiny frog.
Over collection for the pet trade, deforestation and disease threaten many amphibians across the globe today.
